Pursuing an MBA at EDHEC is an unforgettable experience. Last Saturday more than 70 alumni from the MBA programme travelled from several different countries to Nice to attend the 3rd edition of the MBA Refresher. This event gave them a chance to hone their skills as they addressed the theme "Making an Impact: EDHEC & Sustainability", but was also an opportunity to catch up with other MBA graduates and students in a relaxed setting.

A morning of conference presentations on the challenges of the sustainable economy

Gianfranco Gianfrate, finance professor at EDHEC, began by presenting the problem from a financial perspective. The transition towards a low-carbon economy will require profound innovations in the way the global financial system manages climate-related risks. What strategies can investors count on to manage or neutralise these risks?

Geert Demuijnck, professor of business ethics at EDHEC, then explained various strategies that have been implemented by major firms to tackle the problem. Some are suitable responses, while others are up for debate: the challenge is to pick the right ones.

Collaborative workshops

The afternoon saw delegates taking part in three workshops:

  • a discussion session run by PiLab addressing how EDHEC must set the example when it comes to the sustainable economy
  • an introduction to the personal and professional development opportunities available in the EDHEC Alumni network
  • a practical case study of a project run by Mickael Minot (MBA 2012), Brand Developer with Bong Retail Solutions, a business that seeks to reduce the environmental impact of packaging and must overcome many obstacles in certain key accounts.

The day ended with discussions with the MBA programme management team about the future of EDHEC.

And of course plenty of socialising

Our MBA graduates were treated to a lunch of Niçois specialities and Côtes de Provence wines. The day ended on a high note with a champagne reception before delegates went on their way to rediscover Nice and the surrounding region.
