In collaboration with the Global Telecom Women's Network (GTWN, a global network of female senior executives in the telecoms industry) and McKinsey & Company consultants, EDHEC organised a meeting on 26 September, chaired by Viviane Reding. The meeting discussed ways of righting the imbalance between the number of men and women in company boardrooms by encouraging more young women to take up careers in business.
Under the initiative of Candace Johnson, a member of EDHEC’s Board of Governors, the meeting was attended by Olivier Oger and EDHEC professor Monique Valcour, along with deans of European business schools and female business leaders.
"Business schools help fashion the minds of tomorrow’s business leaders and young people lay down the foundations for their future business careers within their walls” says Ms Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Justice, before adding: “We should all strive to ensure that our young female talent at the very least considers a career in business. I am particularly delighted to see that European business schools are taking part in this process. The education sector’s determination to fight the causes of this inequality is also reassuring.”
“This excellent European Commission initiative fits perfectly with our goal of concentrating our efforts on a major problem for European business schools and companies, namely how to do away with the glass ceiling that prevents our female graduates from pursuing high-level international careers even when they have received the same high-quality education and training as their male counterparts”, declares Olivier Oger.
