Efficient networking is one of the keys to success. EDHEC Business School therefore ensures that the 5500 students each year are sufficiently coached in the fine art of successful networking. The vast alumni network of 20000 members, present in over 100 countries serves a host of purposes – from the job search or career switch to the forming of a pool of potential business contacts or even future employees. But networking possibilities are not just limited to EDHEC contacts as Penny Jarvis, the networking facilitator explained to the MBA class recently.
In a series of specialised workshops, Penny Jarvis encouraged the MBA participants to cultivate the right networking behaviour as a way of life and start networking from Day 1.
Given your present state, how can you meet Dalai Lama within a month? How do you get an appointment with Presidents Sarkozy or Gordon Brown? Do you know how to practically achieve this?
Ssuch were the questions that Penny Jarvis used to open the workshops and which provoked the same, standard responses that might be given by anyone who is uninitiated. But much to the appreciation of the MBA participants, by the end of the practical course, they had learned the tricks of the trade that allowed them to find quite a different set of answers.
The workshop was informative, empirical and methodical and it had a profound affirmative metamorphosis in all its participants. The workshop began with a discussion of the fundamentals and benefits of networking and how is it normally achieved. Then Penny Jarvis, took through a steep learning curve equipping the participants with the most advanced and sophisticated tools, techniques and behavioural dynamics on their journey. Then she added creativity and cutting insights to networking processes, drawing from her rich experience. In the end, the participants' networking tool box consisted of killer networking strategy, ingenious tactics and effective perspective. For obvious reasons it is misplaced to divulge the factual information of Penny's working methods, but we can state that since the workshops, several participants have successfully practiced unleashing EDHEC's networking arsenal. If you find some business student talking to Sarkozy in the near future they could well be from the EDHEC MBA !
