So, you have just finished your gap year internship or you have just resigned from your job to join EDHEC. For many of you, the future is clear; for most of you, there is still uncertainty or indecision about the best career path for you. Good news! October is the perfect month whatever your situation:
- If you are still unsure or you have a career change in mind, this is a good time to get some help from your Career Centre, your professors, your family and friends to narrow down the options and decide on 2 or 3 functions and/or industries that you feel could be a good choice for you. Remember you can ask for a career meeting to discuss your choices.
- If you are sure of your career choices, then October is the perfect time to validate your strategy and search plan: Is your objective realistic? Do you have the right profile and skills? Which are your preferred employers and what are their recruitment cycles and deadlines? And most importantly, do you have a plan to achieve your goal?
- If you already have a job offer following your (summer) internship, this is the time to evaluate the managerial skills that will allow you to perform at the highest level – the TI&CD career meetings will help you assess your performance and identify the areas you need to improve. You should also decide whether this is the offer you want or if you will continue to look for a better opportunity.
For all of you, your to-do list for October includes choosing, planning (where and when you will apply), and preparing both for the application process (writing and reviewing your CV, cover letters and application forms) and the interview process (reading and practicing for tests, CBI, group exercises, and case presentations). The article on Career Resources will give you some tips as to how to maximize your time and make the most of these first months so you can really ace the recruitment process.
