At 7.30 pm on Monday 10 May, the Entrepreneur Club held its first meeting of the year in Paris which the ambassadors dedicated to living testimonials. Taking the stand, a group of young Edhec and Espeme alumni presented their personal business start-up success story:
- Elise Fauchille (Espeme 2004), Director of 1point61 (modern artistic dissemination and creation)
- Emmanuel Cotsyoannis (2003), founder of Dîners d’Eloïse (top chef home dinners)
- Michaël Boumendil (1994), elected Edhec Alumni of the Year in 2005, President of Sixième Son (sound marketing agency)
- Sébastien Matykowski (2004), founder of Capival (corporate finance assessment)
There was silence among the audience in the packed room as, holding nothing back, the young entrepreneurs explained in turn how their career choice become an all-consuming challenge. They spoke about what led them to create their own business and their daily routines. In one case, it was simply wanting to be ‘the boss’, while another had a “brilliant idea” in the middle of the night … However, despite the different career paths in a wide range of sectors, they all stressed the same key competencies: excellent time management skills, the ability to take risks, having the right people around you and, above all, determination in the face of setbacks!
The conference was followed by a cocktail, which gave the audience an opportunity to get a little closer to these people “who’d made it” and ask them some more specific questions. Agathe Bergeot, future Class of 2012, told us: “I’m here because I have an entrepreneurial mindset. The evening helped me to develop my network and get useful advice for my project. It’s at times like this that you realise just how rich the EDHEC network is.”
The evening showed that anyone can start their own business at any age … so don’t stop pursuing your entrepreneurial dreams!
