The year 2008 was a remarkable recruitment year for EDHEC's fresh graduates, as the job market varied greatly with the time of application.
Up until the summer, the situation was optimistic across all sectors, and students often had a contract under their belt before they had even finished their course. However, the upbeat situation at the beginning of 2008 was followed by a wait-and-see attitude in the autumn. The recruitment slowdown was definitely felt by young job seekers who started looking for work in October 2008, particularly those students who returned to France from mobility programmes at foreign universities late in the year.
The number of 2008-class graduates beginning their first jobs abroad was down compared to last year's class, mainly due to the shrinking job market in the UK. Nonetheless, 62% of EDHEC graduates obtained an international function and over half of the Master of Science graduates started their first employment abroad. In terms of job functions that the 2008 students were recruited in, Finance is still the most popular with EDHEC students, followed by Marketing and Consulting. Looking at it by sector, almost half the new graduates found jobs in B2B services like Consulting, Audit and Banking /Investment.
