Club Footeuses d’Ambiance: a successful marriage of football and females!
Like many sports, football is often considered a man’s affair. But Club Footeuses d’Ambiance disproves this perception. A group of 15 women get together every Tuesday evening for a training session on the pitch supervised by a coach. The objective of its members, whether beginners or experienced players, is to practice this team sport in a warm and good-humoured atmosphere – although with plenty of competitive drive too! Since the beginning of this academic year, they have played 10 matches as part of the FFSE championship and will be participating in the EDHEC Football Club tournament on 1 April. And while football remains the club’s central focus, the Footeuses d’Ambiance are not averse to other sporting events, such as the famous Week-end au Vert, or social and culinary get-togethers as a way of bonding with teammates.
A little more than a year after the publication of Femmes, Sport et Médiatisation en Europe by think tank Sport et Citoyenneté*, which highlights the inequality women face in terms of media coverage and access to sport, Club Footeuses d’Ambiance is a fine example of a successful initiative to change the dominant mentality! Hats off ladies!
