His first EP has just been released and our young graduate is already off on tour, with gigs across France and in London. Jérôme Fagnet (MSc 2014), the man behind Broken Back, describes his music as being “somewhere between alternative pop and deep pop”.Our home-grown artist, aged just 24 and an EDHEC graduate with an MSc in Entrepreneurship, can count on the support of the whole EDHEC Alumni community as he strives to establish a career as dazzling as that of another musician and EDHEC graduate... a certain Jean-Jacques Goldman (Master 1973)!
Reminiscent of Milky Chance and Ben Howard, Broken Back offers soft hypnotising music sure to get you in the mood for summer. Be sure to check it out!
First EP : Dear Misfortune Mother of Joy
The 4 tracks on this EP are odes to the 1990s generation, with hand-crafted sounds straight out of a student’s room. No big studio, no additional musicians. Mixed by Pierrick Devin (former assistant to Philippe Zdar, known for his work with Lilly Wood & the Prick among others) and N’to (a producer from Montpellier seen as one of the shining lights in France’s minimal deep house scene), this EP is like a melody without borders, much like a generation for whom there are no longer any barriers between the continents. This bright generation, which emerged from the ashes of widespread doom and gloom, seems to face every challenge with unfailing optimism. A generation that gladdens the heart.
