Bathroom revolution with the EDHEC start-up 900.care!

Interviews

900.care joined the EDHEC Entrepreneurs Station F programme  in December 2019.

How did 900.care come about?

Founded by Thomas (MSc Edhec 2013) and Aymeric (MSc HEC 2013), two optimists who wanted to change the world with a smile, the start-up 900.care took on the mission of creating bathroom products that would be good for us and for the planet.

This project came about from a very simple question: why do we throw so many plastic bottles and containers into our bathroom bin? And the solution was just as simple: why not make those bottles and containers reusable?

To manage this, we had to fundamentally rethink bathroom products: you bite into our toothpaste, you refill our deodorant and you create your shower gel by mixing a pellet of active ingredients with water in a reusable bottle.
All this with one overarching objective: enliven the senses with efficiency and respect for the environment.

Tell us about your business.

900.care is a brand of refillable bathroom products for all those imperfect environmentalists out there, allowing them to do something for the planet guilt-free and without compromise. All of our products are healthy and very effective, enlivening the senses but of course without single-use plastics. These products will be sold online, first by pre-order and then directly on our e-commerce website 900.care, either individually or by subscription.
The added bonus is that all of our 900.care refills will fit into your letterbox!

What feedback have you had from your first beta-testers?

We sent 170,000 product samples to more than 10,000 enthusiastic beta-testers. They completed more than 30,000 satisfaction questionnaires and contributed to more than 150 iterations before we arrived at our final formulae.
We have just sent out the final version of our toothpaste, and the feedback has been effusive: our beta-testers gave our last version of the formula a score of more than 4.8/5!

What is your mindset?

After 1 year of experimentation, our superb refillable bathroom products are finally available for pre-order at 900.care.
On 16 June, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance our initial production and begin to form a community.
The results have exceeded our wildest dreams. We had set an objective of 300 products sold in 30 days; we have already sold more than 7,000 products in 72 hours!

How do you see the next few months unfolding?

Once the pre-order campaign has ended, we will begin producing our products and containers to deliver pre-orders in November.
In the same month we will launch our own e-commerce website to sell our products!
One thing is sure – we won’t get bored!

What is your long-term ambition?

The great thing about these products is that the refill concept can be applied to all of the products that you find in your bathroom!
Our community of users is already asking for hand gel, shampoo and mouthwash ... there are loads of things that can be done in this area.
Our vision is to create the bathroom of the future with products that are just as pleasant to use as those in your old bathroom, but with greater respect for the environment!
