On Saturday 9 October, 16 groups of Lille graduates (classes of 1961 to 2016) came together to celebrate their 5, 10, 15 ... and 60-year reunions on EDHEC’s Lille campus! An emotional return as they met up with their old classmates and rediscovered the School as it is today. Our thanks to all ambassadors for getting everyone together, and a special mention for the Masters of 1991 graduates, who were the most numerous in attendance for their 30-year reunion.

A look back at the event’s highlights.

Upon arrival at the Lille campus (Rue Verte in Croix), our alumni were welcomed in the large EDHEC auditorium by two smiling faces, Martin Barbier (EDHEC Master 1988), Director of EDHEC Alumni, and Axel Ramponi (EDHEC MSc Financial Management 2019), Engagement Manager at Tractable, who ensured a festive atmosphere from the outset.

Christophe Collard, the well-known law professor who is Director of Business Law & Management at the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute, launched into a lecture peppered with humour asking graduates: “what if the law became your best friend?” Using striking examples, he invited all those present to question their own relationship with the law and play around with grey areas to create opportunities to stand out.
His presentation was followed by an IAC, an Inter-Association Competition during which 9 EDHEC student associations took turns on stage to try to convince delegates to award them the €500 cheque put up by EDHEC Alumni to fund their projects. The students from 5ème Set secured the most votes. Each year this association organises Europe’s largest student tennis tournament in La Baule: the KPMG Tennis Master Tour, with 300 participants taking part in a 4-day event. It also runs a volleyball tournament and events for disabled athletes.

In the afternoon, each class had time to visit the campus, accompanied by current EDHEC students, before heading off on a small tourist train to discover the new Jean Arnault campus, inaugurated in July by Brigitte Macron, President of L’Institut des Vocations pour l’Emploi (LIVE), Bruno de Pampelonne, EDHEC Chairman, and Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH. The Jean Arnault campus will be home to the LIVE Association as well as the EDHEC Entrepreneurs incubator.

Laurent Gicquel (EDHEC 1988), EDHEC Secretary General, told graduates about the challenges that EDHEC has committed to tackling to maintain its level of excellence and continue to have a positive impact on society.

Anne Guillon (EDHEC 1990), Director of the EDHEC Foundation, accompanied by donor Yves Vitrier (EDHEC 1991) and two young students who benefited from the EDHEC Giving donations campaign, then addressed the audience to talk about the tangible impact that graduates can have by donating. Together let’s develop a positive culture of donating: give, receive, transmit.

And to bring their get-together to a close, all attendees enjoyed drinks & hors d’oeuvres made available by EDHEC Alumni before heading off to the restaurant of their choice to enjoy the rest of the evening. Some even prolonged the festivities until the end of the weekend, with organised visits to the Villa Cavrois and even a paper chase in Lille!
