On September 22, at the Orrick Rambaud Martel Agency in Paris, the Finance Club, re-launched in June by Carine Bedran (2009) and Thibault Chevalier (2009), welcomed the many guests who came to discuss a burning issue in the world of finance today, namely, consumer credit.
A 4-person team composed of sector experts led the conference:
- Pascal Roussarie, Head of BNPP Cetelem credit monitoring wing.
- Frédéric Lalance, Litigations Associate with the law firm Orrick Rambaud Martel.
- Pierre Blanc, CEO of Athling Agency and author of a report on revolving credit for the CCSF.
- Nicolas Pecourt, Prospects and Communications Manager (Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance) and author of the book “Un monde sans crédit” (Ed d’Organisation, 2010).
The panel of experts covered all aspects of consumer credit to the great satisfaction of the 50-strong audience.
- Focusing firstly on consumers, despite been severely criticised by the financial authorities since 2008, this activity still plays a key role with regard to economic growth and domestic life. How have the Lagarde reforms, adopted in July 2010, helped to call to account the main stakeholders and prevent abuse?
- The panel then turned to the lenders, discussing the precautions that bankers need to take to check a customer’s credit worthiness? Where does the lenders’ responsibility end and the borrower’s begin?
- The panel ended by exploring legal and tax issues: how has the legal framework changed for the already highly regulated consumer credit activity following the reforms?
The question and answer session continued over a delicious cocktail that combined business and networking. The next conference is already being planned for December or January but the topic has yet to be confirmed. Watch this space!
