The EDHEC Augmented Law Institute unveils a new version of its reference list of 150 key skills for augmented lawyers according to the market. It is now available on Alll.legal, the resource centre made available to the market for transforming the law and legal professions.

Based on an analysis of the market and consultation with a committee of experts, this publication offers an updated vision of the key skills for lawyers in light of the Covid-19 crisis and the transformations it has exacerbated in the legal industry. The list will be updated each year to keep up to speed with the economic and technological changes on the market.

Legal Expert → Legal Talent Manager

This version 2.0 confirms the augmented lawyer’s need to hybridise: strategic & economic (business), digital and soft skills alongside the traditional legal skills.

Lawyers are still legal experts but must now also assert their role as business partners while at the same time becoming digital transformation officers and legal talent managers.

The role of the Legal Talent Manager is to help team members achieve fulfilment, individually and collectively, within the firm against the backdrop of COVID and VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity).

Skills validated by a committee of experts

To produce this reference list, the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute drew on the methods and tools of collective intelligence developed through its research.

The experts who formed an open and collaborative committee, Stéphanie Fougou, Honorary AFJE Chairperson and Vice-President and Secretary General of Ingenico, Anne-Laure Paulet, AFJE Secretary General, Thomas Saint Aubin, Managing Director of Seraphin Legal, Jérôme Frizzera-Mogli, Head of Innovation & Business Development at the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute, and Christophe Roquilly, Professor and Director of the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute, began by analysing data from LinkedIn and then convened online via the AlllMyTalent.legal platform to discuss each skill listed.

In 2021, the committee set up to publish the reference list for Augmented Lawyers will comprise 10 experts, taking on representatives from professional associations, legal institutions and established figures from the world of law.

DISTINCT reference lists

This change will be followed by a breakdown of this reference list 2.0 into sector-by-sector lists. This way, the EDHEC ALI intends to highlight the specificities of certain industries when it comes to the skills they expect of their lawyers.

The first sector-specific panel will be made up of leading lawyers from the digital entertainment industry: Philippe Coen (Legal Director, Disney), Eric Lauvaux (Lawyer and Associate Founder of Nomos), Julien Mordacq (Legal Director, LOSC), Virginie Molho (Lawyer, Ginestié), Frédéric Descamps (Founder of Manticore Games), Emmanuel Forsans (MD, AFJV), Henri Leben (Lawyer, Leben Avocats), Eric Thomas (Legal Director, Groupe Lagardère), Laurie-Anne Ancenys (Lawyer, Allen Overy), Nicolas Guérin (Secretary General, Orange), Christophe Caron (Professor and Lawyer, Cabinet Caron), Cecile Russeil (Legal Director, Ubisoft), Béatrice Delmas-Linel (Lawyer and Partner, Osborne Clark), Cédric Manara (Director, Head of Copyright, Google), Daphné Olivari (VP Legal & Business Affairs, Deezer), Juliette Felix (Lawyer, Herald), Corinne Thierache (Lawyer and Partner, Alerion).

The results are expected in late February.

The Augmented Lawyer reference list will also be adapted to each profession in law and compliance

  • Augmented lawyer
  • Augmented notary
  • Augmented compliance officer

Lastly, the market reference list, updated annually, is a preamble for the tailored reference team list. Available at Alllmytalent.legal, the Legal Talent Management platform, it will allow legal managers to create a benchmark list for teams with collaborative functions. The Alllmytalent.legal platform is currently in a test phase, and legal managers can create their own list free of charge.
