Fabrice Gobert was a member of ETNA, the student audiovisual club at EDHEC. He went on to study cinema at the Université Paris III from 1994 to 1998 before becoming an assistant director. His first movie, Simon Werner a disparu…, based in part on his own experiences as a high-school student, was chosen for the section of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival known as Un certain regard. On January 21, 2011, it was nominated for a César for best first film for the 36th Césars du Cinéma awards ceremony.
