From finance to the startup world, sometimes It’s just one step. Meet Donatien Dubois, who took that leap and co-founded Meteroid, an innovative solution designed for SaaS businesses.

Can you tell us about how Meteroid came to be? What sparked the idea to launch this company?

Gaspard and I have known each other since secondary school. Our first “collab” dates back to a high school project, which gave us a glimpse into the power of a duo that challenges each other. After our A-levels, our paths diverged: Gaspard ventured into tech, while I joined EDHEC to specialise in finance.

During his professional experiences, Gaspard saw first-hand the limitations of billing systems used by SaaS companies. These tools, originally designed for traditional subscription models, often don’t fit usage-based pricing structures. Joined by Teake (from the Netherlands) and Artur (from Ukraine), we quickly realised that we shared strong values—transparency and accountability—as well as a common desire to solve real-world problems. Meteroid was born from that synergy. As for me, after six stimulating years in a major bank—working in internal audit and consulting—I felt the urge to forge my own path. I needed a new direction, a break from the familiar, and a chance to take risks. The shift was complete—a full 180°—and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

How would you explain Meteroid to someone who’s never heard of it before?

With the rise of AI, SaaS (Software as a Service) business models are evolving. New billing models—especially usage-based—are becoming the norm. However, these models are complex to implement and scale. That’s where Meteroid comes in.

Meteroid is a platform that enables B2B SaaS companies to manage and implement all their pricing models—subscriptions, usage-based, or hybrid—efficiently. We simplify the day-to-day life of:

  • CFOs, by automating the billing process and helping them steer their financials more precisely;
  • CSOs, by enabling them to test and roll out new pricing models independently;
  • CTOs, by providing a turnkey solution that integrates seamlessly into their ecosystem.

What challenges do you face daily when it comes to innovating and standing out?

There are many challenges, but that’s what makes the adventure exciting. In the startup world, you have to be curious, test boldly, accept mistakes, iterate, and most importantly… stop waiting for perfection before moving forward. Unlike my time in banking, where each issue was handled by a dedicated expert, here we wear many hats. One day I’m CFO, the next I’m CPO or CSO!

This agility is both demanding and invigorating. And in that sense, my time at EDHEC equipped me well with a broad foundation across diverse subjects.

Any key achievements you’re especially proud of since launching?

Seeing an idea become a fully functional product is something I’m really proud of. After months of brainstorming, speaking with players in the SaaS ecosystem, refining the product, and developing it—we were finally ready to go to market. It marked the beginning of a new chapter, and we’re enjoying the moment together as a team.

A standout lesson or encounter during this journey?

I’ve learned not to chase perfection, but rather progress and learning. The startup world forces you out of your comfort zone—you have to embrace the unknown and make fast decisions. Every day is a chance to learn. And most importantly, I’ve realised that nothing meaningful is built alone.

On that note, what’s your advice for building the right team around you?

To innovate, you need to create an environment of trust—one where everyone feels free to express their ideas. At Meteroid, we’ve bet on diversity: of backgrounds, nationalities, and professional cultures. That’s an incredible source of strength.

But beyond the founding team, it’s also about activating your network. The ecosystem is key: former colleagues, friends, family, alumni. For example, our “Voice of Client” initiative—which helped us better understand the billing challenges SaaS companies face—was made possible thanks to EDHEC alumni working in SaaS firms across Europe.

Where do you see Meteroid in five years? What are your goals?

Our ambition is clear: to become a leading billing player for SaaS businesses in Europe and the US. That’s why we designed Meteroid from the start as a scalable, international solution with a cosmopolitan team.

To reach that goal, our next steps are equally clear: convincing more SaaS companies to work with us, raising funds to accelerate our growth, and exploring new use cases. For instance, large companies could use Meteroid to revamp their internal billing systems, aligning them more closely with actual usage—especially in IT services delivered by the HQ. That could drive greater accountability within each business line and ultimately optimise group-wide resource allocation.
