Ingrid ALULA EDHEC Master 2018: How to impact society if we secretly believe we don’t have what it takes?
11.25.2022
II became an EDHEC Resource because, despite a "prestigious" academic and professional background, I was stuck in my career due to a lack of self-esteem. I’m convinced that others from EDHEC are stuck in this vicious circle, and I want to help.
Preparatory studies, business school, university exchanges abroad, internship and apprenticeship in CAC40 companies... Reading all this, one could hardly believe that someone who ticked all those boxes could have low self-esteem and stagnate in her career as a result.
That person was me, Ingrid Alula, and because of my lack of self-esteem I declared €0 of turnover to the URSSAF for 3 years. Fortunately, today, I am no longer in that situation. My clients now pay me a fair price, but a lot of hard work was needed to get there.
Self-esteem is a concept that is very rarely mentioned in our studies, and yet it massively determines our professional trajectory. Whether it’s negotiating a raise, seeking a promotion, interpersonal relationships, quality of life, turnover as an entrepreneur … the list of areas impacted by self-esteem is long, yet we rarely talk about it.
However, it is not the accumulation of diplomas or certificates that builds it.
It is built elsewhere, from our earliest childhood, and determines our quality of life until our final breath.
So, what if we don’t value ourselves as much as we should?
What if our impostor syndrome is blocking us?
What is the correlation between our self-esteem and the life we lead?
Is my self-esteem high or low?
How did I get here?
What do I have to do to boost it?
These are all questions that members of the community may be asking themselves. They are also questions that I strive to answer now that I am a Self-Esteem Coach. I decided to become an EDHEC Resource because I think many people in the EDHEC Alumni community ask themselves these questions.
I am happy to contribute in this way to the community as, for me, it means offering the help that I would have loved to benefit from. I was ashamed of this problem, and I didn’t know where to turn to solve it. I think finding someone who has had a problem similar to ours is what we need to solve it.
We are qualified and competent, but the constant doubt about our self-worth blocks the expression of our great potential. I am proud to help those in our community who need to unlock this potential.
