“Women who succeed in sport: redrawing boundaries”

Tuesday 27 June at 7 pm, EDHEC campus

16, rue du 4 Septembre, 75002 Paris
and via streaming

From elite athletes to holders of strategic positions in the sporting world, the daily roles of some women are redrawing boundaries: from sport to business, the leap is not insurmountable!

Elite athletes nowadays have understood the importance of promoting themselves to professionals from the business world both for their sporting career and for their later transition to the working world. With atypical profiles, elite athletes offer significant advantages for companies. How to manage your career and make a successful transition: some examples to follow.

The world of elite sport is a microcosm in which, even more than in business, prejudices can overshadow skills. Just like female top executives, female athletes, who are present in increasing numbers in sports clubs and federations, must try even harder to prove they can succeed. What are the keys to their success?

Being a part of the sporting community is a life choice as well as a career choice. What advantages does the sporting world offer in today’s economic climate?

Paoline Ekambi, four times national French champion, twice a silver medal winner in the European championship, the player most selected (254 times) on France’s national basketball team – which she also captained – and added to the list of athletes in France’s Académie de Basket in 2012. President and co-founder of Sportail Community www.sportailcommunity.com.

Béatrice Barbusse, lecturer in sociology at Université Paris-Est Créteil, graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, holder of a PhD in sociology, and former elite handball player. General Secretary of the Fédération Française de Handball (FFHB) since April 2017 and responsible for the national plan to increase female representation within the FFHB since 2013. Chairs the board of trustees of the Centre national pour le développement du sport. Author of several articles and books, including Du sexisme dans le sport, Anamosa, 2016. Twitter: @bbarbusse

Maryline Cabane (EDHEC BBA 2010), project manager (partnerships and business development) with the Fédération Française de Football. Previous professional experience with OGC Nice, Olympique de Marseille, Manchester United FC, Pernod Ricard UK and Allianz Riviera. Graduated with a BBA EDHEC from Nice in 2011, a Masters specialised in International Sport and Event Management from Kedge Business School Marseille in 2012, and an MSc in Science Strategy and Organisation Consultancy from EDHEC Business School in Lille in 2013. Vice-Chairperson of the UPE’s Commission Santé-Sport (MEDEF) in the Alpes-Maritimes from 2014 to 2016.
