EDHEC devotes 20% of its resources to research, the four main domains being finance; financial analysis and accounting; economics and law (see EDHEC Research Days, p28). This research is recognized internationally for its quality and relevance to businesses; and is judged within the school on this same basis. Research findings are shared as widely as possible with other academics, corporate sponsors, decision-makers, professionals and the general public across the world, through publications, specific activities or events (see EDHEC-Risk Days, p22).

New centres of excellence
EDHEC has become a leader in finance and economics. Other specialties are being developed in conjunction with companies along the same lines, where research focuses on business concerns and training is designed to respond to business needs. Two landmarks in 2012 were the creation of the Family Business Centre (its mission is to become the reference for research into and benchmarking of family firms in Europe and Asia); and the creation of the Bonduelle chair in marketing to study the impact of technological change on the marketing of food brands.
A Bonduelle marketing chair at EDHEC
On 19 October 2012, Christophe Bonduelle, Chairman and CEO of Bonduelle with Olivier Oger, Dean of EDHEC Business School, officially announced the creation of a Bonduelle research chair to study the impact of technological change on the marketing of food brands. This event marked the end of a seminar organised by Bonduelle on EDHEC’s Lille campus for the company’s 250 most senior executives. An internationally renowned professor is being recruited to become the Bonduelle Professor of Marketing. He or she will be responsible for setting the research agenda and building the team who will carry out research and undertake teaching. Its first creation is a new course for the EDHEC Master in Management programme to be launched in January 2013.
Creative insights
The fundamental objectives of our research centres are to inform and constructively challenge our economic and political stakeholders with ideas and concrete proposals (see comments on the Gallois Report, p37). Consistent with this approach, EDHEC’s Family Business Centre, with the backing of its wellknown corporate sponsors, is to dedicate its expertise to producing research and training programmes specifically designed for family businesses (see Family Business Centre Conference, p31).
