Why are internships so important in investment banking?

Un extrait de Q/R sur efinancial, qui rappelle l'intérêt du Summer Internship en banque  d'investissement (pré-recrutement).

For students the main reason for doing a summer internship if you want to go into investment banking is to boost your chances of becoming one of the bank's graduate hires when you leave university. At least 50% of graduate trainees hired by most banks are students who did an internship with them. For the banks, an internship is a way to assess you, and to introduce you to what investment banking is all about. However, increasingly, it's also a way to help match prospective trainees with the right department in what is an increasingly complex field, as Alison Trauttmansdorf, head of European campus recruiting at Goldman Sachs, explains: Investment banking is complicated, so to begin with, it can be difficult to work out the best place for you. http://students.efinancialcareers.co.uk/graduateCentreQuestions.htm#q78
