From September 2013, students will be able to join a new ‘Business Law & Management’ programme from the 1st (Bachelor) year at EDHEC. Designed in collaboration with the Law Faculty in Lille, the 3-year programme, completed by a year in a company or in a law firm, has been designed to meet a new and growing job market trend.
“Business law firms and companies increasingly need young grads who have completed a double law and management degree programme,” Anne Zuccarelli, Associate Dean of Academic Programmes and Careers at EDHEC Business School, told us. “At present, however, students who wish to follow this type of programme have to study these disciplines in parallel or one after the other, with no coherence between the programmes to help them acquire the specific skills needed,” Alexis Massart, Dean of the Law Faculty, explained.
A top-class programme
In concrete terms, the new programme will allow students to combine a Law programme (from the third year of a Bachelor in Law degree to the second year of a Master in Business Law) with a Management programme via three years of studies at EDHEC Business School.
The first year will cover the basics of Business Law, Economics and Management. In the second year, students will focus on more specific areas, such as Competition Law, Business Criminal Law, Banking Law, Strategy, Marketing, Corporate Governance, Ethics, etc. Half of the course will be delivered in English. The final year will take a more in-depth approach to business law (international contracts, M&A’s, IP law, etc.), ethics and leadership, as well as the place of law in corporate strategy. 80% of the courses will be delivered in English.
Eligibility after a preparatory school class or undergraduate studies
The course is designed for two types of students. First, students who pass the national competitive exam to enter the first year at EDHEC after preparatory class, and secondly, students with a Law degree delivered by a Law Faculty. At the end of the course, the young graduates from the Business Law & Management programme will be able to find work as  business and tax lawyers, corporate lawyers or corporate tax lawyers, both in France and abroad.
“EDHEC and the Law Faculty both benefit from an excellent reputation in the fields of Management and Law. We have already worked together for several years on joint programmes such as the Master 2 Pratique du Droit des Affaires and the LLM in Law & Tax Management. Encouraged by the positive outcome, we are now delighted to announce the creation of this new and complete programme that is unique in France, and will ensure that our young graduates meet all the market expectations, both in terms of skills and references, and so fully achieve their career plan,” Alexis Massart (Dean of the Law Faculty and professor) and Christophe Roquilly (Professor and head of the Law/Tax department at EDHEC) explained.
