First EDHEC Family Business conference: sharing knowledge and experience
On Friday 23 November 2012, Olivier OGER, Dean of EDHEC Business School and Benoit ARNAUD, Director of EDHEC Management Institute, opened the first conference organised by the Family Business Center in Lille.
The aim of these meetings is to untangle the reality from generally accepted assumptions about family businesses through testimonials from business owners about management, governance, and the development and growth of these firms. The aim is to think about the new challenges facing these businesses and to gain new insights from the measures and solutions implemented in the field.
With an audience of almost 120 people, including representatives of founder members of the centre, like Marc Roquette (Roquette Frères), Jean-Yves Morisset (Deloitte) and Blandine Herbaut-Mulliez (Mulliez family), as well as many representatives from other family businesses, Denis Dauchy, Professor of Strategy at EDHEC and Director of the Executive MBA and Patrick Seghin, Chairman of Damartex, discussed "Changes in Business Models" in family businesses via the story of Damartex and the experience of the firm’s manager who was not a family member.
After presenting the group and its multi-brand organisation, the two speakers discussed the family dimension of business, its governance and main bodies (the Board, its role, presence if independent administrators…), and its impact on how Damartex is run, together with the firm’s positioning on the market in relation to its family status.
