How easy was it for new graduates to find a job in 2008?

The job market varied enormously for new graduates in 2008, depending on when they began applying for jobs.

Up until the summer, the situation was bullish across all sectors, and students often had a contract under their belt before they'd even finished their course.

The upbeat situation at the beginning of 2008 was followed by a wait-and-see one in the autumn, however. The recruitment slowdown began to be felt by young job seekers who started looking for work in October 2008, particularly those students who returned to France from mobility programmes at foreign universities late in the year.

In terms of job functions, consulting slightly outdistanced marketing. Around 40% of the graduates found jobs in Finance.

Almost half the new graduates found jobs in BtoB services like consulting, audit and banking investment.

The number of graduates beginning their first jobs abroad was down due to the shrinking job market in the UK, but 62% of Edhec graduates nonetheless went into an international function.
