Assessing and developing soft skills – a core mission for EDHEC

October 2012– The Talent Identification&Career Development (TI&CD) programme is exclusive to EDHEC and unique in Europe. During its fifth year, it enabled over 800 students to prepare for the different recruitment exercises practised by national and international employers. Given the ever-more competitive nature of the graduate recruitment market, a career-boosting programme of this type is a must for final-year students.

During the programme, 840 MSc students on EDHEC’s Lille, Nice, Paris, London and Singapore campuses were subjected to a battery of talent-identification measures including individual and group interviews, case presentations, psycho-technical tests and group exercises, designed to evaluate them on 10 key managerial skills. MSc students Francis and Pierre Antoine acknowledged the high-level nature of the exercise, with Pierre admitting that “once the first part of the interview was over, the discussion with the speaker contributed a lot”.

Some 30 international coaches specialised by function of activity then worked with students to define individual “workshops” based on their assessment of students’ professional projects and soft skills (efficiency and sense of communication, flexibility and adaptability, teamwork, creativity etc.)

These sessions enable students “to develop faster and more effectively, and to build their professional networks”, underlined Gautier Villiaume, Head of Trade Marketing with Procter & Gamble in Geneva, and a mentor of the TI&CD programme. He also said that “this unique programme undoubtedly represents a real career-booster for EDHEC students!”

In addition to this programme, EDHEC continues to innovate in terms of careers and prospects. The latest example concerns the upcoming launch of the School’s New Gen Talent Centre, which will serve as a laboratory for tackling issues involved in attracting, retaining and developing new-generation talent.
