Trainee Investment Manager - Government Bonds

What we are looking for

We want an individual with consistently high academic achievement, expecting or achieved a First/2.1 degree in any discipline, to work in the Government Bonds team in our Fixed Income Department. This is a qualitative and quantitative job so you do not need to be studying a related or numeric degree although the successful applicant will have been successful at maths up to A Level or Higher standard.

The team are responsible for the research, analysis and management of global government bond and currency portfolios. Their main task  is to identify positions that will generate the best returns for our clients. This will entail analysis of the economic and monetary conditions of the countries in which they invest, an assessment of what information markets have assimilated and the determination of how best to reflect their views in terms of the investments they elect to make..

What you will be doing

Investment management is a demanding and challenging business, and success depends on market knowledge, sound judgment and providing a high quality service to our clients. We will ensure that you get a thorough grounding in these skills.

We have a structured, tried and tested training programme which comprises of on-the-job training, internal tailored training courses and study for the IMC and CFA.  Working alongside fund managers and partners, trainees learn how to analyse economic reports and assess the investment characteristics and prospects of various markets.  Trainees meet professional economists, government institutions and market specialists.  They can expect to contribute to departmental investment strategy from a relatively early stage. The training is designed to equip you with the skills to eventually become an Investment Manager.

A specialist department, the Institutional Clients Department, is responsible for providing client service, and you will spend a secondment here within your first three years.
