Alexandre de Lur Saluces (EDHEC 1959), the former lord of Yquem and an iconic figure of Sauternes, has passed away
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Alexandre de Lur Saluces, the former lord of Yquem, an iconic figure of Sauternes wine and a graduate of the class of ’59, who had long been a committed member of the EDHEC community.
As the head of the estate producing the world's most famous sweet wine, which his family has owned since the 16th century, Alexandre left an indelible mark on the world of wine production, tirelessly defending his heritage, the crown jewels of which were the châteaux of Yquem and Fargues, in Sauternes (Gironde).
Alexandre was a member of France’s Wine Academy, a count until 2011 and then a marquis following the death of his older brother, Eugène de Lur Saluces. Forever sporting his famous cap, he left the strongest impression on the EDHEC graduates and staff members who met him because of his simplicity and sense of humour.
He graduated from EDHEC in 1959 and throughout his life maintained close links with our School and the EDHEC Alumni association, participating in major events as a donor.
His entrepreneurial mindset, loyal commitment and good humour will continue to be an inspiration.
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. We share their pain and remember him with the greatest affection.
