If you have a 13+ average at EDHEC and are both motivated and qualified for Investment Banking careers – you need to apply now for a summer internship which would start in June 2012 at the end of your gap year.
Here are the top tips if you feel you have what it takes to apply this year:
DO YOUR HOMEWORK: Target the right programmes and research carefully to include precise, accurate and relevant arguments in your applications. Read the Financial Times, WSJ, Economist and spend time browsing websites to build your industry awareness. Use the Vault guides available to you on the Career Centre websites. You will find lots of great resources in the EDHEC Career Centre newsletter dedicated to the Investment Banking Recruitment Season.
PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE: Investment banks have different expectations for CVs. You must include achievements and quantifiable results. Leadership and teamwork in your associations and activities are highlighted in the same way. EDHEC’s Student Career Centre offers you a broad range of support and events to succeed:

APPLY EARLY: Applications open in Aug. / Sep. Apply as early as possible - selection is done on a rolling basis. Recruiters review applications from August to December for internships starting the following June! Know opening dates and respect deadlines, there are no exceptions and applications may close long before deadline dates. Some banks report over 8500 applicants for 150 graduate positions worldwide.
START NOW! It will be a major investment in time and effort – so start now and be realistic about where you are most likely to get in, don’t waste your time on sending 50 applications, it is better to target between 10 and 12 banks with a focus on the area you want to work in. Don’t forget about the smaller, lesser known or international firms who can offer excellent opportunities. www.selectsimulator.com is a great place to practice filling in application forms and save your responses!
PIPELINE TO GRADUATE JOBS: A Summer Internship at the end of your gap year is the best way into a Graduate program after your degree. Off-cycle or long internships are also good ways to position for summer internships or be considered for Graduate Programmes. Banks report 60 to 80% of summer interns being offered Graduate positions at the end of their Summer internships.
We are looking forward to seeing you on the Nice campus in September. Please contact vincent.muzelle@edhec.edu <mailto:vincent.muzelle@edhec.edu> for more information or for a phone appointment with a Career Advisor.
