Mazars Presentation

Ecole

-

24/11/2011

On November 22nd, Mazars conducted a presentation on the Nice campus addressed to students interested in internship opportunities for their upcoming gap year. The Campus Recruiting Manager was joined by two EDHEC alumni and gave a very interesting presentation on the company, the role of the “commissariat aux comptes”, and other aspects of a career in audit.

Some interesting take-aways:

  • Mazars is relatively small when compared to its Big 4 competitors but this also means that as an employee you have quicker access to responsibilities, more access to top management, more opportunities for participating in the development of the company in France or abroad, especially in you are in France, which is their HQ. They have 35 offices in France only and have a presence in 61 countries!

  • Interns get responsibility from day 1 by managing a piece of an audit mission. A 2-week initial training is provided to all interns. Missions last between one to six weeks, and people change clients and industries, which makes the job interesting and a great learning platform. Specialisation by sector does not occur till the fourth year approximately. Since part of the mission is always done on the client site, there is big exposure to clients. Teamwork is also very relevant for Mazars, as is the ability to work autonomously.

  • Although the presentation was focused on audit careers in France, Mazars representatives mentioned that:
    • Their services include consulting, financial advisory, legal, tax, accounting, actuarial… and there could be some opportunities in those areas. For more info: www.mazars.fr
    • Each country handles its own recruitment. For international opportunities, refer to their global site: www.mazars.com
    • After 3 years, there can also be opportunities to move into other services, like consulting, or move to another location.

  •  In terms of human resources policies, a great importance is given to training at all level of your career. And Mazars has the most attractive retribution package for interns (1,800 Euros per month) and new hires (39,000 Euros) in France.

  • There are internship opportunities in the form of: gap year internships (from September to February), summer jobs, and “stages de fin des études”. For more info and deadlines, visit their local or global websites. Mazars will meet all students again at the EDHEC Forum in January 2012.
