Industrial Revolution in Investment Management

Thursday, June 28th 2018, 19pm

Presentation led in English by Lionel Martellini, Professor of Finance,
EDHEC Business School and Director, EDHEC-Risk Institute

Investment management is justified as an industry only to the extent that it can demonstrate a capacity to add value through the design of dedicated meaningful investor-centric investment solutions, as opposed to one-size-fits-all manager-centric investment products. After several decades of relative inertia, the much needed move towards investment solutions has been greatly facilitated by a true industrial revolution triggered by profound paradigm changes in terms of mass production, mass customization and mass distribution.

Professor Lionel Martellini will share his thoughts on the future of the investment management industry, and also discuss EDHEC thought leaderships efforts in the domain.
The presentation and Q&A sessions will cover the following themes:

  • Mass‐production of smart factor indices as attractive alternatives to active managers for efficient risk premia harvesting
  • Mass-customization of goal‐based investing solutions as attractive alternatives to existing retirement products for efficient life‐cycle investment decisions
  • Mass distribution with digital wealth management systems as attractive alternatives to traditional wealth management platforms
  • Professor Martellini will also outline the outstanding challenges that remain associated with these recent trends, and discuss how risk management is expected to play a central role in what should be regarded as nothing short of an industrial revolution that is about to impact asset and wealth management.

A drinks reception will follow the presentation at 8:30pm.
